Monterey Jazz Festival. Every year since it began in 1958, this seaside town has played host to the Monterey Jazz Festival, the oldest continuously operated jazz festival in the United States. Monterey has welcomed the likes of Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Sarah Vaughn, Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, and the Modern Jazz Quartet. Held annually in the third week of July at the Salinas Sports Complex, this rodeo is one of ten that have helped grow the sport's fan base by being televised on ESPN2 and the Outdoor Living Network. Blue Angels. Since its inception in 1946, the Blue Angels have performed for more than 414 million fans. Stationed in Florida during the show season, it spends January through March at Naval Air Facility El Centro, California. Exciting performance highlights include the four-plane Diamond Formation, and the renowned, six-jet Delta,. Air shows are scheduled during March and October, 2006, in Northern California.
